Sutherland: 
​Juvenile Roller at Durness (Kate Clarke), found at 1349pm on Durness Golf Course and still present at 1745pm between Balnakeil Craft Village and Loch Croispol. Little Bunting and a Yellow-browed Warbler in Ach' na h-Anaite wood at Keoldale and a Yellow-browed Warbler at Balnakiel Farm. In Scourie still two Yellow-browed Warblers (All Andy Williams and Tessa Rhodes).

Inverness-shire: Two juvenile Curlew Sandpipers at Whiteness, no sign of the Spotted Redshank, but 4 Ruff, an Osprey and a Willow Warbler (Jon Clarke). At Muirtown Pools 425 Redshank roosting and 25 Grey Herons (Graeme Priest).

Easter Ross: Yellow-browed Warbler at Tarbat Ness at Brucefield Plantation at 1139am, and Garden Warbler and a Whinchat. Also a Ruff flying low over fields near plantation (All Jon Clarke). A second Yellow-browed Warbler at 1430pm in the sycamores at Wilkhaven Farm, Tarbat Ness (Lynda Graham).

Sutherland: Two Yellow-browed Warblers in Scourie, in willows 50m down track from the toilet block and two in Kinlochbervie in willows/sycamores next to the picnic site (Andy Williams).

Inverness-shire: Juvenile Little Stint, 3 Ruff and the Spotted Redshank still at Whiteness this evening on the rising tide (David Carter).
September 27th

Easter Ross: A Yellow-browed Warbler again this afternoon in the plantation at Tarbat Ness (Simon Levene). At Udale Bay this afternoon the Little Egret also a Grey Plover, Ruff, 22 Golden Plover, 90+ Bar-tailed Godwit, 106 Lapwing, 80 Knot, 10 Ringed Plover, 10 Dunlin, 800+ Wigeon and 108 Teal (Kevin Davies).

Inverness-shire: Waders at Whiteness Bay today included a juvenile Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank, a Ruff and 8 Grey Plovers. Also 3 Arctic Skuas offshore and an Osprey (Tom Wells).

Badenoch and Strathspey: Two Scaup on Loch Insh, male and a female (Dave Pierce).


Late news of a reported Black-browed Albatross past Faraid Head yesterday (Birdguides). Also a Hoopoe yesterday along the shore in  in Harrapool, Skye at about 5pm (Grace Yoxon).

September 26th

Inverness-shire: Early morning at Muirtown Pools a  Bar-tailed Godwit, Kingfisher, 19 Ringed Plover and 6 Turnstone (along sea wall). At Alturlie Point,  2 Slavonian Grebes and a Great Northern Diver close inshore (Alan MacAskill).

Easter Ross: There was an immature Glaucous Gull at the fish factory on Dingwall Business Park at lunchtime today (Simon Cohen). 

Skye and Lochalsh:
 A Hoopoe yesterday along the shore in Harrapool at about 5pm (Grace Yoxon).​

September 25th

Easter Ross: No sign of the Little Egret at Udale Bay but one Grey Plover, 180+ Golden Plover, 158 Lapwing, 6 Dunlin, 300+ Redshank, 94 Bar-tailed Godwit, 80 Knot, 114 Greylag, 2 Pink-footed Geese, Osprey, one female Merlin and a Kingfisher. At Channory Point, two Arctic Skua, 46 Gannet and 33 Kittiwake (All Kevin Davis). Late afternoon today, there were 1+ Yellow-browed Warblers in the plantation at Tarbat Ness mixing with Tit/Goldcrest flock (Simon Levene). Lesser Whitethroat at Tarbat Ness (Dean MacAskill).

Inverness-shire: Castle Stuart bay had 350+ Curlew, 82 Redshank, 31 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Black-tailed Godwit and 5 Ruff this evening and still at least 5 Chiffchaffs as well (Colin Leslie). 120 Bar-tailed Godwit at Whiteness at high tide (Hugh Insley).

Sutherland: 1 Yellow-browed Warbler at 14.30pm today at Bettyhill, in willows above Ard Mor viewpoint near the Garage. Also 2 Chiffchaff there. At Balnakiel, Garden Warbler, Willow Warbler and 10 Goldcrests at the Craft Village. Also 1 Brambling at Altnaharra (All Pete Gordon).

September 24th

Lochaber: Lapland Bunting at Salisbury's Dam on Rum, plus male Blackcap in Kinloch and a flock of c5 migrant Swallow over Kinloch (Sean Morris).

Inverness-shire: 1 Curlew Sandpiper off Whiteness Point this morning (Colin Leslie).

Easter Ross: Little Egret and 7 Ruff from Udale Bay hide on the Black Isle this afternoon (Bob Wilson), No sign of the egret later from Udale Bay hide, Gordon's Mill or Kirkmichael between 1600pm and 1715pm (Kevin Davis). Egret flew off towards Jemimaville (Simon Cohen). 3 Ruffs and 5 Black-tailed Godwits from the hide at Nigg Bay just after high tide (Keith and Rosie Barnes).

Sutherland: A Grey Plover on the beach at Brora 200 metres S of the car park at 10.00am (Keith and Rosie Barnes).


Wester Ross: Stornoway to Ullapool ferry sightings; 8 Arctic Skuas, 2 Storm Petrels and 1 Manx Shearwater (Andy Williams).

September 23rd

Inverness-shire: 9 Slavonian Grebe at Milton of Culloden (James Gordon). 6 Chiffchaffs and 2 Blackcaps at Castle Stuart this afternoon (Colin Leslie).

Easter Ross: 3 Kingfishers at Pefferside Park, Dingwall (Andrea Goddard).

September 22nd

Easter Ross: 1.5 hour sea-watch today at Tarbat Ness produced 3 Manxies and 3 Bonxies with 47 Golden Plovers down on the rocks before heading inland. Single Lesser Whitethroat and Common Whitethroat on the path down to the lighthouse (All Tom Wells).

Inverness-shire: 2 Chiffchaff in Smithton (James Gordon).


​Just outside Highland recording area but in the Minch, European Storm Petrels have returned to breed on the Shiants this summer after the rat eradication project, see article here.

September 21st

Inverness-shire: Three Grey Plover this afternoon in the roost south of Ardersier (Marcus Conway). 4 (!!!) Kingfishers at Merkinch reserve and 73 Redshank and 6 Little Grebe (Alan MacAskill).​

September 20th

Easter Ross: Kingfisher at Udale Bay this morning, also single Osprey, three Sandwich Terns and reasonable numbers of commoner waders inc. 22 Golden Plover, 110 Lapwing, 145 Bar-tailed Godwit and 95 Knot (Kevin Davis).

Skye and Lochalsh: Single juvenile among c240 Kittiwake at Trumpan, Waternish this morning (Tom Wells).

Lochaber: Black Duck drake still at Strontian today (N, Hammatt).

Skye and Lochalsh: Pelagic out of Portree to the southern Burma bank area had a Pomarine skua, 2 European Storm Petrel, 2 Sooty Shearwaters, 12 Arctic Skua, 8 Bonxie and 2 Manx Shearwater, also 200+ Short-beaked Common Dolphin and a Minke Whale.

Skye and Lochalsh: Pomarine Skua and three Arctic Skua in Broadford Bay, and two off Waternish Point (Bob McMillan). Four Whooper Swan south over Kyleakin. 5 Storm Petrel off Waternish Point.  Pink-footed Geese heard passing over Portree late last night (NB) and 100 south at Sconser this morning (Jonathan Jones) - skein over Broadford early afternoon, then Portnalong late afternoon; 60 over  Broadford early evening (Bob McMillan) then a skein over Uig late evening.

Lochaber: 105 Pink-footed Geese over Kilmory, Rum (Sean Morris).

Easter Ross: In Peffery Park, Dingwall, at least 4 Chiffchaff with two singing birds and a Kingfisher on the pool and in the river. At Dingwall point at low tide 3 Curlew, 4 Knot, 2 Ruff, 32 Black-tailed Godwits, 307 Redshank and 8 Pink-footed Geese (All Andy Williams). 

Inverness-shire: Curlew Sandpiper at Whiteness Head this evening, plus 2 Grey Plovers (Al McNee). 145 Pied Wagtails feeding on the Bught Park playing fields early morning (Lynden Schofield).

Wester Ross: 6 Leach's Petrels and a Sooty Shearwater on the morning Ullapool-Stornoway ferry and 28 Leach's Petrels reported on the Stornoway-Ullapool return ferry crossing in the afternoon and a juvenile Sabine's Gull (Birdguides).

Wester Ross:
At Achnahaird today - 11 Dunlin, 10 Ringed Plover, 3 Curlew 2 Snipe and 8 Twite (Andy Williams). c60 Pink-footed Geese flying south in Lochbroom this afternoon (Tessa Rhodes). Leach's Petrel reported from the Ullapool-Stornoway ferry crossing (Birdguides).

Inverness-shire: Five adult Long-tailed Skuas high over Chanonry Ness this afternoon, heading towards Great Glen (Douglas Willis). 350 Pink-footed Geese in 3 skeins from north over Whiteness, no sign of the Curlew Sandpipers (David Carter). 1000 Oystercatcher feeding in a massive flock on the sands at Whiteness Bay as the tide fell from high (Lynden Schofield).
Sutherland: Two Spotted Flycatchers at Balnakeil Craft Village (Michael Fitch). 110 Pink-footed Geese migrating south at Dalchork, near Lairg (Peter Stronach).

Wester Ross: 11 Leach's Petrels from Ullapool to Stornoway ferry today and 1 Sooty Shearwater (John Poyner). Singing Chiffchaff early morning at Lochbroom (Tessa Rhodes). On the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry 4+ Leach's Storm-petrels, 18 British Storm-petrels, 1 Sooty Shearwater, 29 Manx Shearwater; also 2 Basking Sharks, 3 Minke Whales, 3 Bottlenose Dolphins, 80+ Common Dolphins and 50+ Harbour Porpoise. On the return trip from Stornoway to Ullapool - 12 British Storm-petrels, 18 Manx Shearwaters; 5 Minke Whales, 140+ Common Dolphins, 48 Harbour Porpoise (all Mike Hoit).

single Sooty Shearwater flying northeast and 7 Common Scoters (Alan MacAskill).

Sutherland: Sabine's Gull flew north past Stoer Head lighthouse at 1125am; also 3 Velvet Scoter.

Skye and Lochalsh: Grey Phalarope (RBA) from the Uig-Lochmaddy ferry, also 2 Leach's Petrel. Pale-bellied Brents moving through Skye today, separate groups of 6 & 8 this morning, then 15 late afternoon in Broadford Bay.

Easter Ross: Balearic Shearwater (Dave Tanner) flew southwest past Tarbat Ness at 0700am.

Skye and Lochalsh: Single Pale-bellied Brent Goose in Broadford Bay and 250 Dunlin, 7 Whimbrel and 14 Black-tailed Godwits in the morning. 48 Black-tailed Godwits and 2 Whimbrel at Ardnish in the evening. Also a flock of 27 in off the sea at Ashaig, Broadford and then flew south. 10 Sanderling and 19 Dunlin in Staffin Bay.

Easter Ross: 
1 Purple, Sandpiper today at 1715pm  onwards on Chanonry Point pier (Mary Galloway).

Easter Ross: Single juvenile Black Tern (Dave Tanner) flew south west past Tarbat Ness with several juvenile Kittiwake at 07:30am, also 300+ Arctic Tern past southeast into the Dornoch Firth.

Skye and Lochalsh: Two flocks of Knot totalling 60 south through Broadford Bay today (Bob McMillan). Kingfisher at Carbost heading south towards the head of Loch Harport today (Stephen Bentall).

Easter Ross:
2 Black Terns (Steve Broyd) past Chanonry Point at 1230pm. 2 Sooty Shearwaters flew southwest past Tarbat Ness at 0713am, also a Velvet Scoter (Dave Tanner). At Udale Bay today, 3 Shoveler, a single Pintail, 125 Wigeon, 65 Teal, a juvenile Peregrine and 2 Ruff. Also off Jemimaville 36 Scaup, 24 Slavonian Grebe and two Black-tailed Godwit (All Kevin Davis).

September 3rd

Easter Ross: Single Sooty Shearwater past Tarbat Ness at 0701am and an adult Pomarine Skua flew southwest at 0724am (Dave Tanner). Spotted Redshank still at Tain Links at midday (Bob Swann).

Sutherland: 5 Sooty Shearwaters past Brora and also a juvenile Little Gull (Dean MacAskill). Rose-coloured Starling still in Embo today (Dean MacAskill).

​Sutherland: Adult Rosy Starling still with Starlings on the rooftop at Inverview Terrace in Embo late morning (Mark Warren).

Wester Ross: Second summer Viking Gull still by the ferry terminal in Ullapool (Dave Tanner). Juvenile Long-tailed Skua seen off the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry (Colin Leslie).

Lochaber: Grey Phalarope (Ronnie Dyer) on the sea, 1 mile off Arisaig at 1645pm today. Drake Black Duck still at Strontian on the river downstream of the bridge today (RBA).
