Tests are to be undertaken to see whether this is actually a genuine vagrant from the continent rather than offspring of a wild breeding pair or an escapee. This 2010 British Birds paper describes tests on feathers of an Eagle Owl found in Norfolk, using stable isotope analysis to see whether it had originated on the continent. It also describes known movements of continental Eagle Owls post-fledging of up to 1200km)
