Badenoch and Strathspey: 200 Waxwings in their favoured tree in Craigellachie Crescent in Aviemore this morning. 30 Waxwings in Nethy Bridge this morning at Dirdhu Court then flew towards Causer. 2 Waxwings in Boat of Garten by the Railway Bridge.

Lochalsh:  Emaciated Eagle Owl found at Morvich yesterday.

Easter Ross: 180 Waxwings on High Street this afternoon.

Inverness-shire: 58 Waxwings in Smithton.

Waxwing invasion continues!! (See Waxwings for Dummies leaflet from Grapian Ringing Group below for more information on ageing and sexing any Waxwings you see). Please check them all for colour rings!.

​Inverness-shire: 150 Waxwings at Muirtown Primary School at 10am and 2pm. 180 Waxwings at the southwest end of Castle Heather Park at the end of Slackbuie Avenue at 1430pm. 80 Waxwings south across Distributor Road at Wade Roundabout at 1340pm, also 9 birds on a tree in Merlewood Road, flying up and catching flies, at 1345pm. 117 Waxwings reported in Smithton. (These totals give a combined figure of 536 birds for the Inverness area)

Wester Ross: 30 Waxwings on Ladysmith Street next to the Eilean Donan Guesthouse and 6 Waxwings on Custom House Street, Ullapool, early this afternoon.

Lochaber: 3CY Glaucous Gull in Mallaig Harbour today.

Easter Ross:
Adult winter Mediterranean Gull still present at Brora and 2 Little Gulls. 160 Waxwings in tree by Rosemarkie Churchyard entrance today around 10:30am.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 30 Waxwing in Nethybridge, west of the Causer crossroads.

Sutherland: Single Waxwing at Balnakeil Craft Village. Single Jack Snipe near Achmelvich.

Inverness-shire: 50 at Muirtown Primary School, Inverness, at 10am today.​ Kingfisher at Muirtown Pools at 1pm today. 200 Waxwings at Culduthel Road, in the trees at the junction with Green Drive.

Easter Ross: Drake American Wigeon still from the hide at Udale Bay at 11am. 30 Waxwing at Fortrose Cathedral.

Badenoch and Strathspey: At least 8 Hawfinch still at Grantown this morning, see map location below. 100 Waxwings still in Aviemore at in the Milton area, and an additional 30 on Dalfaber Road and 20 on Corrour Road.

Wester Ross: Chiffchaff in Loch Broom. 60 Waxwings in Ullapool.

Sutherland: Single Snow Bunting flew east at Strathy Point today.

Inverness-shire: Kingfisher at Drummond, Inverness. 179 Waxwings on Culduthel Road, Inverness and 100 more in the village at Kirkhill.

Lochaber: Single Waxwing at Kinloch, Rum.

Skye and Lochalsh: Juvenile Velvet Scoter with a Common Scoter in Uig bay.

​Badenoch and Strathspey: 11 Hawfinches still present at Grantown, see map under 24th November for location. 50 Waxwings still remaining in Aviemore.

Easter Ross: 5 Waxwings in the berry-covered tree opposite the Post Office on Dingwall High Street at 0930am today, then flew off towards the junction at the top of the High Street. 7 Waxwings at Millbuie Forest today.

​Inverness-shire: 50 Waxwings on Craig Phadrig above Inverness, 20 on Leachkin Brae at NH636449 and 30 around the reservoir at NH628438.

Lochaber: 15 Waxwings outside Crannog Seafood Restaurant late morning.

Inverness-shire: American Wigeon still present today at Clachnaharry/Muirtown, along with Kingfisher and a Water Rail. 40 Waxwing in Holme, Inverness.

Inverness-shire: Drake American Wigeon still on the sea lock at Clachnaharry at 1500pm and a late Lesser Black-blacked Gull adult on the shore. Earlier, c20 Waxwings over Craig Phadrig at midday. 240 Waxwing at Smithton today.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 7 Hawfinches reported at Grantown early morning, then 5+ Hawfinch still around midday just downstream from Old Spey Bridge, Grantown - commuting between larches either side of the river.

Easter Ross: 300+ Waxwings in Fortrose today, 40 in Muir Of Ord and 45 at Gordon's Mill this morning at Cygnus House.

Skye and Lochalsh: 2 Waxwing in Broadford and a male Blackcap at feeders in Dunvegan.

Lochaber: 20-25 Waxwings at Morar, near Mallaig at 1230pm today.

22nd November

Badenoch and Strathspey: Still 4+ Hawfinches today at 10.25am at Grantown-on-Spey. From the Old Spey Bridge walk downstream on the west side just past the power line. Birds were in the larches on left, feeding on larch cones.

Inverness-shire: Drake American Wigeon still present and showing well at Clachnaharry sea lock at 11:30am. 32 Waxwings in Croy today and 150 Waxwings still at Beechwood Park, Inverness.

Easter Ross: 4 Bonxies at Tarbat Ness. 30 Waxwings by Cygnus House, Gordon's Mill and 12 Waxwings at the southern hide at Udale Bay.

Lochaber: Single Snow Bunting still in Kilmory Glen, Rum today.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 47 Waxwings in Nethy Bridge, up the hill just behind the Nethy Hotel this morning. 6 Hawfinches showing well in Larch trees on both banks of the River Spey just downstream from the Old Spey Bridge at Grantown on Spey. 70 Waxwings in Aviemore at 1515pm on footpath parallel with Grampian View.

Inverness-shire: 150 Waxwings at Beechwood Park in Inverness today. c30 Waxwings in the Tesco Car Park at 1030am, Tomnahurich Street, Inverness. 46 Waxwings at Smithton. 30 Waxwings in a garden at Milton of Leys this afternoon, at 3:40pm. Drake American Wigeon still present at South Kessock today.

Easter Ross: 12 Waxwings by the B817 at Alness, showing ENE of Teanicich junction. 7 Pale-bellied Brents at Rosemarkie burn today at 1515pm, 2 adults and 5 juveniles.

Inverness-shire: Drake American Wigeon still present at South Kessock today and 20 Waxwing. 60 Waxwing in the Raigmore Hospital carpark at 18.30pm.

​Sutherland: Juvenile Pomarine Skua by the pier at Embo and 20 Slavonian Grebes.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 420 (!!) Waxwings along the main road in Aviemore at the Dalfaber junction.

Inverness-shire: Drake American Wigeon still present at Clachnaharry this morning and again at midday, also a Kingfisher at Muirtown Pools. 100 Waxwings on Suilven Way in Inverness this morning.
 
Easter Ross: The drake American Wigeon and 2 Twite at Udale Bay at 1320pm. 100+ Waxwings flew in from the east at Alness today, to Rosskeen Church on Perrins Road, they rested for a few minutes before flying on west. 

Badenoch and Strathspey: 300 Waxwings on Grampian View in Aviemore today at 1527pm. Also 15 Waxwings in Abernethy Forest.
 
Sutherland: Adult winter Mediterranean Gull still at Brora at high tide this afternoon, just southwest of the river mouth from the car park, and three first-winter Little Gulls. 20 Waxwings on Golf Road, Brora as well.

Easter Ross: The American Wigeon (Mark Finn) was still at Udale Bay with the large wigeon flock at 1500pm. It is in the Gordon's Mill fields and is no visible from the hides at Udale Bay. Also present 2 Ruff, 19 Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Barnacle Geese. Flock of 12 Waxwing at Invercarron for 2nd day.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 3 Scaup with Tufted Ducks at southwest end of Lochindorb, and an imm/female Common Scoter with Mallards near the Castle.

Inverness-shire: Drake American Wigeon (Keith and Rosie Barnes) still on Clachnaharry sea lock at midday today. At Whiteness Head East (the spit that runs opposite the old Barmac yard) this afternoon a Jack Snipe, 8 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 16 Grey Plovers and 21 Snow Buntings.

17th November

Badenoch and Strathspey: 8 European White-fronted Geese (Dave Pierce) at Dell of Killiehuntly this morning at 1030am.

Inverness-shire: The drake American Wigeon showed well at Clachnaharry sea lock at 1500 hrs today, down to a few metres, also 38 Goldeneye in Inverness harbour. 15 Waxwing at Smithton.

Lochaber: 2 Snow Buntings on Rum at Kinloch.

Easter Ross: Single Little Auk just off the point of Tarbat Ness early morning and 2 adult male Velvet Scoter into the Dornoch Firth.

Inverness-shire: 60 Waxwings on Suilven Way yesterday afternoon.

Sutherland: Adult winter Mediterranean Gull (Dean MacAskill) at Brora at high tide this afternoon, also 21 Purple Sandpipers. Northern Eider (Dean MacAskill) at Embo, also 45 Common Scoter and 7 Velvet Scoter at Embo. Embo.

Easter Ross: 15 Pale-bellied Brent geese this morning at the burn mouth in Rosemarkie, also 12 Black-tailed Godwits at Udale Bay.

Badenoch and Strathspey: Six Scottish Crossbill (J Sutton - Birdtrack) reported in Glenmore Forest Park at NH9710.

Lochaber: Iceland Gull at Loch Scresort, Rum. Adult Glaucous Gull in the harbour at Mallaig.

Wester Ross: Six Sooty Shearwaters reported from the Ullapool-Stornoway ferry.

Sutherland: 4 Snow Bunting at Dornoch Point.

Easter Ross: No reports of the Siberian Accentor at Knockmuir Wood today.

Sutherland: 2 Red-necked Grebes (Dean MacAskill) off Dornoch Point late morning at 11am.

Inverness-shire: Drake American Wigeon still present at Muirtown Basin with 40 Wigeon. 2 Pale-bellied brent Geese at Alturlie Point.

Easter Ross: Siberian Accentor is still present at Knockmuir Wood, reported at 0825am and 1600pm. ca.70 Waxwings in Rosemarkie today. 645 Whooper Swans on Loch Eye.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 150 Waxwings at Craigellachie Avenue this morning, then 170 reported at Burnside Close at 1400pm.  50 Waxwings on Station Road, Carrbridge.

Easter Ross: Siberian Accentor is still present at Knockmuir Wood.  It has been reported early morning for the last 3 days but not later in the day.  For those who have not seen it, the best bet would seem to be to arrive on site very early when it has shown well, if briefly. Nearby a group of 70 Waxwings in Rosemarkie this morning, catching flies, at West side of village at Greenside Avenue. Also 60+ Waxwings along first part of Eathie road, 100m south of the Transmitter, eating berries. Also male Hen Harrier over the fields at Peddiston, heading towards Jemimaville.

​Easter Ross: Siberian Accentor still present this morning at Knockmuir Wood, Avoch but flew north early morning and no further sign between 0930am and 1615pm.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 22 Waxwings by A940, 8 miles north of Grantown.

​Easter Ross: Siberian Accentor still present at Knockmuir Wood this morning at 0830am and seen through day until 1455pm. Drake American Wigeon still at Udale Bay and 3 Greenland White-fronted Geese. 4 Waxwings at 12.30pm today at Rosemarkie hall car park flying from the tops of a group of cherry trees catching insects and returning.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 50 Waxwings early afternoon grew to 120 Waxwings by mid-afternoon on Grampian Drive in Aviemore today. Also 30+ Waxwings seen at the Slochd briefly at 1330pm.


8th November

Easter Ross: Siberian Accentor still present at Knockmuir Wood this morning and at 1530pm, north of Avoch at NH705563 (Please park by log pile and do not block access along the track). 2 Swallows in Avoch this afternoon. Taiga Bean Goose (Tom Wells) at Udale Bay today at 1040am with Pink-footed Geese, also 8 Black-tailed Godwit.

​Inverness-shire: House Martin attempting to roost at the station at Inverness this evening.

Sutherland: 25 Waxwings in Durness Kirkyard, Siberian Chiffchaff still present at Balnakeil Craft Village in nettle field opposite entrance. Approximately 50 Waxwings at Inshegra, in garden opposite the entrance to 138 Corrachbeag.

Easter Ross: Siberian Accentor still present at Knockmuir Wood, north of Avoch at NH705563 (Please park by log pile and do not block access along the track). Showing well at times on track and reasonably often given patience, see videos below from Jon Clarke. 4 Velvet Scoter past Tarbat Ness this morning. 17 Waxwings in Rosemarkie High Street at midday, sitting in a Poplar tree. 20 Waxwings reported later near Fortrose cemetery.

Badenoch and Strathspey: Two Bean Geese ssp (Roger Tozer) in fields along Carr Road, Carrbridge, to the east of Easter Gallovie this afternoon, with 1000 Greylags.

Lochaber: 2 Waxwing at Acharacle today.

FIRST FOR HIGHLAND!!!

Easter Ross: First-winter Siberian Accentor (Mike Thompson and Brian Etheridge) caught during a ringing session in Avoch this morning. Released after ringing in Gorse/Birch scrub at Knockmuir Wood, north of Avoch at NH705563. Please park by log pile and do not block access along the track. Adult white morph Snow Goose still present today again on Beauty Firth between Redcastle and Craigrory at NH6048. Little Auk past Tarbat Ness.

Skye and Lochalsh: Adult Mediterranean Gull (Martin Benson) in Broadford Bay this morning, in the afternoon a leucistic Oystercatcher.

​Easter Ross: Adult white morph Snow Goose still present near Redcastle at 1150am. Drake American Wigeon back at Udale Bay this afternoon at high tide.

Sutherland: 3 Waxwings at Forsinard, flew up Strath. 9 Snow Buntings on the beach at Dornoch.

Easter Ross: Adult Snow Goose still present near Redcastle, at a field east of Acharry at NH563493 at 1525pm, with Pink-feet and 11 Barnacle Geese. Drake American Wigeon (Birdguides) reported from Udale Bay and 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese.

Skye and Lochalsh: 9 Pale-bellied Brents in Broadford Bay.  Adult Glaucous Gull in Loch Portree.  Also juvenile Velvet Scoter at Achnacloich, Sleat.

Inverness-shire: 18 Whooper Swan and 6 Goldeneye at Whiteness and 18 Golden Plover at Whiteness Bay.


3rd November

Sutherland: No sign of Baird's Sandpiper at Dornoch, although waders widely scattered and very flighty at high tide roosts.

Lochaber: Female Common Scoter at Kilmory, Rum.​

2nd November

Sutherland: First-winter Baird's Sandpiper (Dean MacAskill) at Dornoch Point at high tide at 1430pm, with Sanderling flock near the point. High tide roost located at NH806872, the flock was flushed and split by a light aircraft and the bird could not be relocated. High tide tomorrow 1400pm approx. 19 Grey Plover and a single Snow Bunting on the beach. 13 Black-tailed Godwit in wader roost on the saltings and a Pale-bellied Brent.

Inverness-shire: Drake Green-winged Teal (Birdguides) reported at Loch Flemington.

Badenoch and Strathspey: 4 Waxwings at Causer crossroad in Nethy Bridge.

1st November

Sutherland: 900 Eiders between Embo and Loch Fleet, also 41 Grey Plover and 225 Sanderling at Dornoch Point. Pale-bellied Brent at Tain.

​Inverness-shire: 9 Pomarine Skuas (2 with spoons) flew high west over the Kessock bridge at 1225pm today. Also 33 Pale-bellied Brent Geese between Longman Bay and Allanfearn.
